I asked each of the manufacturers (supplier MOG in the case of Rial) the weight of their 7x13 wheel.
These are the responses I received.
| Superlite |
Image Billet 4
| Image Billet 93
| Compomotive CXR
| Rial front (assume 7x13)
| Rial rear (dimension unknown)
| Barnby
|
| Approx 4kg |
4.2kg |
3.9kg |
5.2kg |
4.7kg |
5kg |
3.6kg |
So you can see that a swap to Barnby wheels from CXRs should give a weight saving of 1.6kg per front wheel and possibly a similar saving each side at the rear. Total 6.4kg?

This marks the start of my research into a new set of wheels for the Caterham. These wheels are to be used for Sprints and Trackdays and light weight is the primary aim.
For sprints I currently run a set of Compomotive CXR 13" rims (7" fronts and 8.5" rears) with Avon slicks (dry), or 13" Superlite wheels (7" fronts and 8.5" rears) with cut Avon slicks (wet).
Initial thoughts for replacements are either Mike Barnby Engineering wheels (not Barmby as is often written) (www.mb-racingwheels.com), or Rial wheels from MOG (www.mog-racing.com) or Fluke (www.fluke-motorsport.co.uk) or Image wheels (www.imagewheels.co.uk).
